Stay logged in longer

Casey Kolderup 14 years ago updated by Aditya Sahay 14 years ago 5
I get logged out almost constantly and have to go through the process of logging myself back in via Facebook Connect just to add a video via the bookmarklet. Could the logged-in state be retained for longer?

For regular users we have the option of staying logged in for 30 days, but I guess it doesn't work for Facebook connect.

Here's what we can do:
1) By default keep users logged in for a month (that basically means "unlimited").
2) Make this the case with Facebook connect as well.

Sounds good?

I absolutely agree. It's very frustrating to have to be faced with a "please log in" message, particularly when Radbox's appeal is to quickly get through the current website so that I can view the video later. I've never had to re-log in for Instapaper, though I'm not sure if that's because the user ID information is encoded within the bookmarklet.

I'd argue for unlimited login periods by default -- what kind of super-private data are we storing here anyway that needs us to be logged out after a while?

Thanks!
Are you logging in through Facebook too?
Nope, with a non-FB account. The limit just doesn't make sense for me, especially since much of the appeal of the bookmarklet is how quickly it gets out of your way, and we're not storing extremely private data here that requires us to be logged out for our own good. Alternatively, encoding the user ID into the bookmarklet would help solve the issue of having to log in while bookmarking.

Great that you guys have addressed it for Facebook users, though :)
I can't find a way to respond to your comment above, but yes, that would be great. I would also be okay with just converting my account to being non-Facebook-login-based if I had to, but that doesn't seem to be possible. It would probably be confusing, but as a last resort I'd rather do that than constantly have to log in and slow down the video-queueing process, which as Yinjie mentioned kind of ruins the whole point of the bookmarklet.

Thanks a lot!
We're going to make the default logged in period for Facebook users as 30 days. It should be done in a couple of days, I'll update this thread accordingly. Thanks a lot for pointing it out.

About moving to non-Facebook account, we can do it if you really want us to, but I'd recommend give us a couple of days, and report us your experience once we make the change.
